Monroe County Fishing Teams Host Tourney

AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – Local fishing teams participated in a friendly competition on Saturday in Amory.
This is the first year Monroe County schools have their very own fishing teams.

Teams from Smithville, Hamilton and Hatley competed in their second tournament of the year this weekend.

There was a total of 17 teams with 2 people per boat.

Participants say it’s the thrill of the spot that makes them interested.

“The excitement of catching a fish because they’re such a unique creature and they change from day-to-day from what they want to eat and minute to minute actually,” said Smithville High School student, John Paul Cromwell.
Smithville High School won the tournament, with Hatley High coming in second and Hamilton High in third.
