NOXUBEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A standout Noxubee County football star and Mississippi State signee is apologizing after video showing him hitting a woman several times Thursday evening surfaced.

The above picture shows Jeffery Simmons and another person striking a woman while she’s on the ground.

In a Facebook post Saturday Simmons says he takes full responsibility for his actions and apologized to the Taylor family and Sophiaimage Taylor.

It’s not certain if Taylor is the woman being struck. Simmons says he lost his temper after remarks were made about a deceased family member and he was defending his family.

Simmons also says, that is still not a reason to take the action he did.

Law enforcement is aware of the incident but so far Macon Police have not responded to calls for comment on the incident or have said if any criminal action will be taken.
