STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Students, faculty and staff took time to also honor veterans at Mississippi State University.

Held at the heart of campus, a ceremony took place for veterans on the Drill Field at MSU.

Miniature American flags were placed on the drill field to honor those who have served in the military.

Remarks were given by MSU President Mark Keenum and Regina Hyatt, Vice President of Student Affairs.

Representatives from the university’s ROTC were on hand for the ceremony and presented the colors to kick off the program.

“Mississippi State is a great place to be on a normal day, but on a day like today, it’s a special, special place to be,” said Ken McRae, Director of the university’s G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Center for America’s Veterans.

The observation of Veterans Day at MSU began with the reading of nearly 7,000 service members who have died during the war on terror. During this weekend’s big game against Alabama, veterans will also be honored.
