COLUMBUS, Miss (WCBI) – A Columbus family faces the same dilemna every year as the Egg Bowl approaches:  divided loyalty.

Elton and Nicole Thomas have been married for almost thirteen years. Elton graduated from Ole Miss. Nicole is a Mississippi State graduate.

The 2000 Egg Bowl game was their first date and the last time they watched the rivalry game together.

After they got married, decided they would go to home games for both teams during the football season, but would enjoy the Egg Bowl separately.

Their two sons, Si and Cole, are divided too. Si, who is in fourth grade, mostly cheers for the Rebels. His younger brother, five-year-old Cole, roots for the Bulldogs.

As for this year’s Egg Bowl, both boys will likely be celebrating, no matter the outcome.

Nicole says, “We’re actually going to be at Disney World, so we’ve joked that Disney is where magic happens. Maybe somehow they can both win this game. That would be fun.”
