COLUMBUS, Miss. (Press Release) –  Based on a variety of criteria, Mississippi University for Women’s nursing program has been ranked as one of the best in its region.

“This is a significant recognition of the excellence of our nursing programs and we are honored to continue to gain national recognition. Factors such as providing a quality nursing education, high licensure pass rates, ongoing national accreditation, student satisfaction and high graduation rates are used to determine this ranking,” Dr. Shelia Adams, dean of the College of Nursing and Speech-Language Pathology.

Ranking The W at No. 6, Nursejournal.org examined 1,189 schools and selected 20 metrics to rank 100 colleges and universities for the “NurseJournal.org’s Best Nursing Schools Best in the Eastern Region.”

The five categories to develop the rankings were: quality, affordability, convenience, satisfaction and value. The W received the highest possible score in convenience which factored in distance education options for both undergraduate and graduate students, hybrid nursing programs and weekend/evening classes. The W also received a high score in affordability and quality, which factors tuition, student loan debt, accreditation and NCLEX passing rate.

“We are consistently high in all these areas due to the dedicated faculty, staff and department chairs who are willing to mentor and help our students succeed,” added Adams.

The W’s College of Nursing and Speech-Language Pathology offers an associate of science in nursing, bachelor of science in nursing or in speech-language pathology, master of science in nursing or speech-language pathology and doctor of nursing practice. Based out of Tupelo, The W’s RN-BSN Advanced Placement Option is designed for the working registered nurse who is interested in a flexible learning option to obtain a baccalaureate degree. The W offers both a partial distance option and total distance option based on the student’s needs.
