MUW Rerouting Some Traffic During Street and Parking Lot Work

[PRESS RELEASE]

The W continues to improve campus infrastructure

COLUMBUS, Miss. – In addition to renovation projects, Mississippi University for Women is milling and repaving two north campus parking lots and roads to improve campus infrastructure.

Work is scheduled to begin Monday, June 22, and will only take a day or two to complete. The roads will be striped in about 10 days.

The project involves Third Avenue, Welty Drive and Callaway and Whitfield parking lots.  During this project, individuals will need to enter and exit campus through the gates on 15th Street or 11th Street at Fourth and Fifth Avenue.

Access to campus will not be available through the front gate or Third Avenue, and there will be no parking available on Third Avenue, Welty Drive, Ginkgo Lane or Stovall, Welty and Whitfield parking lots. Serenade will be closed north of Fourth Avenue South.

There also have been sewer improvements, which included the removal and upgrade of the storm sewer manhole and the repair of the existing sanitary sewer manhole in the southeast corner of the parking lot.

Dewey Blansett, director of facilities management, said, “The upgrade and repairs of the storm sewer included converting it to a drop inlet to facilitate better drainage from the parking lot.”

He added, “We appreciate everyone’s patience as we continue to improve the campus infrastructure.”

The projects, totaling about $191,000, are being funded through university plant funds and capital improvement fees.

Neel-Schaffer is the project professional with Falcon Contracting serving as the parking lot contractor and Perma Corporation serving as the storm sewer contractor.
