VERNON, Ala. (WCBI) — A new ambulance service is now active in Vernon, Alabama.

Lamar Ambulance Service officially launched Monday, after Transcare Ambulance ended its paid service before Thanksgiving with no notice.

Since then, local volunteers throughout the area have handled the call volume.

“It’s been very taxing on the volunteers, but they have stepped up, and did an excellent job,” said Vernon Mayor Glenn Crawford. “They’re excited about as much as anybody is about us putting this service up, so they can go back to being volunteers that they have been, and assisting when needed, instead of being the primary service being counted on every day.”

Lamar Ambulance Service will serve the public in Vernon and all of Lamar County 24 hours a day.
