NOXUBEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Officials with Noxubee County General Hospital are disputing a recent study that says they are at risk for closure.
The study uses data from 2008 through 2012, and hospital officials are reassuring people, they are not at risk.

“Panic! My daddy called first, mom called, Auntie called, everybody. You know, just like a shock for me,” says Barbara Epps.

Barbara Epps has worked at Noxubee General for 15 years, when she heard a study that says her livelihood could be going away, she could not believe it. She says if the hospital ever shut down, it would be devastating for her family.

“I’ve raised two kids here, and I also drive from Kemper County here. So, it means a lot to my family, cause I’m a single mom,” says Epps.

Hospital officials say she has no reason to worry.

“The hospital is stable, the hospital is financially solid. We’ve been in a growth mode for years now, and we continue to be in a growth mode, and we will be here,” says Administrator Danny Mckay.

In fact, they have recently added more services including an infusion center and wound care center.
It’s all an effort to make Noxubee County residents safer and give them more convenience.

“Anything that can be done here locally in Macon, if we have to add new services, it’s better for the people rather then have to drive all the way to Columbus or to Meridian.”

Administrator Danny Mckay says he understands why his hospital made it on the radar of the study … Uncompensated care was one criteria used.

” We do have uncompensated care, however we do have other revenue streams that make up for it,” says Mckay.

That extra revenue includes a nursing home and 3 clinics.

Mckay says hospital administrators know the health care field is always changing and they will continue to evolve to make sure patients get the best care they can.
