Officer Involved Shooting Under Investigation

JACKSON, Miss. (Press Release) – The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Wednesday, August 19th in New Albany. New Albany police officers conducted a traffic stop on County Road 293 at approximately 12:30 a.m.

The vehicle was occupied by two males. The passenger was out of the vehicle but the driver fled the scene in the car. New Albany police and Union County Sheriff’s deputies pursued the vehicle. The driver of the suspect vehicle attempted to ram the law enforcement officers and the officers discharged their weapons.

Once the suspect was stopped he exited the vehicle and was tazed by the officers. The suspect was transported by EMS personnel and died on route to the hospital.

The body of 38-year-old David Schott Coleman was taken to the state Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy. MBI’s Crime Scene Unit processed the vehicle and MBI agents began an investigation.

Coleman’s last known address is 1066 Robertson Road in Blue Springs, MS. The passenger in the vehicle, 33-year-old Jason Matthew Malone of Ecru, is being held for questioning.
