TUPELO, Miss. ( WCBI) — These are the images people saw last year as an EF3 tornado tore through Tupelo.

Now, thanks to a new photo exhibit,  these are the images that will be seen as people reflect on that day and the past year of rebuilding.

“Photo’s are printed on metal, they’re actually going to be put on salvaged city sign posts that were damaged in the storm, ” say attorney Pat Caldwell, who took the pictures.

As Caldwell helped with clean up, one image stood out.

“Laying in the debris pile, were two dead baby birds, I don’t know why I did it , I grabbed my camera and that’s kind of where this started, ” says Caldwell.

Caldwell’s photos, taken throughout the last year aren’t just about documenting the devastation but also the rebirth of a community.

” There’s a little oak seedling coming up out the ground, about that tall, I took a picture of that and I said, you know it’s gonna be okay. It’s gonna be a long haul , but we’re gonna be okay, ” says Caldwell.

Those memories will be displayed here next week for everyone to see and remember everything the community has been through and how far they’ve come.

Caldwell says he will continue to document Tupelo’s recovery at events marking the anniversary approach.

The gallery will open next Monday  at Fairpark and will be open through the month of May.
