Red Bay Hostage Crisis Ends Peacefully

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – The Franklin County sheriff says a hostage situation has been resolved at a Red Bay pharmacy after the pharmacist convinced the gunman to hand over his weapon.

WHNT-TV (http://bit.ly/1IsK27g ) reports that a man tried to rob the pharmacy on Tuesday morning and took five people hostage.

The station reports that the man let four people go, but kept the female pharmacist with him.

Investigators say that woman talked with him and convinced him to give up.

Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver says the suspect gave her the shotgun and she walked out of the business and gave it to law enforcement officers. They then went inside and arrested the man.

Oliver says the gunman did not fire the shotgun.
