COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The city of Columbus is showing off the progress being made at its city hall.

On Wednesday, WCBI got a tour of the building, which hasn’t been renovated since the 1980s.

Work started in October, and renovations include new doors and windows, and an updated ramp to the building.

City workers say they found some interesting things in the facility during the demolition.

“A lot of surprises, like the old jail, a lot of the historical facts that you actually see in person that takes your mind back then to like, wow, like this used to be like this, there’s old fire places, a lot of things,” said Jabari Edwards, Jr., project manager.

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History is covering the cost of the $1.6 million project.

The renovations should be complete in November.
