Report of Shots Fired in Starkville Prompts Maroon Alert

MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY, Miss. (WCBI) – A shooting incident at an apartment complex has triggered a “Maroon Alert” on the Mississippi State campus.  Initially the call came in as shots fired at Haven 12, and three suspects running toward the Thad Cochran Research Park. Starkville Police report that the shots were actually fired at Camelot Apartments on North Montgomery Street in the city. Police pursued the suspects, and they abandoned their vehicle near Haven 12, and fled on foot.

The suspects are described as three black males. They were last seen running from TVA toward Highway 12.

According to the Starkville Police Department’s website one female is in custody.

MSU officials have tweeted that “No shots were fired on our campus. No apparent connection to MSU personnel or students at this time.”
