MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Monroe County deputies continue to search for the man accused of pulling the trigger in a shooting near Hamilton High School.

Dequann Payne, 20, of Aberdeen is wanted by deputies.

Sheriff Cecil Cantrell says Payne is a convicted felon that should be considered armed and dangerous.

Meanwhile, 20 year-old Shadrick Ware was arrested late Wednesday night.

He’s being held in the Monroe County jail, awaiting arraignment.

The shooting happened just behind the Hamilton High School football field. No one was on campus at the time of the gunfire.

Four casings were found after gunshots rang out on Wednesday night.

Deputies found what they believe to be about three pounds of marijuana nearby.

Investigators believe the shooting is the result of a drug deal gone bad.

“We think maybe this is his drugs and he met these people down here to do business with them, sell it to them and they just decided…look like they decided to rob him and take his drugs,” said Cantrell.
