Shelton Named Interim Chief

COLUMBUS, MS (WCBI) – There is now an interim police chief appointed to lead the Columbus Police Department.
In the wake of the resignation of former Chief Tony Carlton, during a special session Columbus Council members unanimously voted to appoint Captain Fred Shelton to the position.
The 32 year veteran of the department has been handling the day to day duties since Carlton’s resignation.
The search for a permanent Police Chief begins Friday. Captain Shelton plans on being one of the applicants in a national search to fill the position of top cop in the Friendly City.
