Video: Starkville Schools To Hire More Teachers

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The state-ordered merger of Starkville and Oktibbeha County schools this summer will mean some changes to handle more students and other changes at some schools.

The Starkville school board agreed to hire eight teachers at Starkville High and seven at Armstrong Middle on Tuesday night. County students in those grades will attend those schools this fall.

The county is not rehiring 38 certified educators as a result of the merger. Some of those can apply for the 15 open positions. As many as 25 certified teachers and even more cafeteria, custodian and related workers will be eliminated.

Equipment upgrades at East and West Oktibbeha elementaries also will increase lunch prices 10 cents to $2.35.
