Video: Tennessee Murder Suspect Caught
COLUMBUS, Miss. (Press Release) — At approximately 12:00 a.m., the United States Marshals Service along with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department and the Columbus Police Department, arrested Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI) Top Ten Fugitive Cashman Jamar Perkins in Columbus, MS. Perkins was wanted by the Chattanooga Police Department in Chattanooga, TN for Criminal Homicide, Aggravated Domestic Assault, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in the death of a female. Perkins is also wanted by several different agencies on charges of Failure to Appear on Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Violation of Probation.
On June 15, 2014, a Crime Stoppers Tip was received indicating that Perkins was located in the Columbus, MS area. The United States Marshal Service, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department, and the Columbus Police Department teamed up and investigated the matter and was able to determine that Perkins was residing with family members. However, when officers made contact with the known family members’ residence, Perkins was not present. After multiple interviews and canvasing of the neighborhoods, Perkins was located and arrested without incident at the intersection of 6th Avenue North and 26th Street North in Columbus, MS. Perkins was transported to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department to await extradition back to Tennessee.
In July of 2006, the United States Marshals Service established the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF). The task force covers the entire states of Mississippi and Alabama, New Orleans and Memphis. Primarily, the task force focuses on violent state and federal fugitives. Full-time members of the task force are as follows: U.S. Marshals Service, Mississippi Department of Correction, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department, Panola County Sheriff’s Department, Tupelo Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, and Tate County Sheriff’s Department.
