CALHOUN CITY, Miss. (WCBI) — Downtown Calhoun City was alive with activity this weekend.

The 45th annual Square Fest drew more than a thousand people to the square for music, food, and political speeches.

It is sponsored by the Calhoun City Chamber of Commerce and is the biggest community event of the year.

Chamber President Laura Edwards says it is a time many former students of Calhoun City High School get together.

“A lot of classes actually plan their reunions around our event because it’s a real good way to get everybody home,” she says. “You see people that you haven’t seen in a while. It’s just a great day in Calhoun City.”

Edwards says Calhoun City was founded in 1906 and was centered around the square which is still the hub of the community.

She says even though Calhoun City is a small town it is holding its own as far as economic development with some really unique retail merchants and industries.
