MONROE COUNTY, MISS. (WCBI) – – Many Monroe County residents have been affected by the rising water. The flooding has kept many residents worried of what might happen to them and their homes. Rain so deep that cars couldn’t be driven and grass can’t be seen. A boat was the only thing that Ray Vandusen’s uncle could leave his home in last night. Although they live on the same land, they didn’t have the same experience dealing with the flood waters.

“Well you know really I’ve been lucky today, all things considered, it came up to seven inches and it didn’t get in the house, so I mean as fast as it came last night, it was about ten o’clock when I got the call that it was coming up, and I mean by midnight, I mean, this road was flooded.”

Coontail Road in Aberdeen disappeared as rain poured down.
It caused resident, Johnnie Drake, to leave his truck on the side of the road and walk the rest of the way home.

“It was pushing it over in the ditch, the water was pushing it over in the ditch.”

The flooding in Monroe County is so bad that it has turned ditches into small ponds. No flood insurance and half a home filled with water is leaving homeowner, Liverato Haro, with a lot of damage and stress.

“About four inches high in my living room. My carpet, I need to tear the carpets, tear everything up.”

This is the first time in years that residents can remember Monroe County flooding this bad, causing physical and emotional damage to many.
