Tupelo, Lee County Schools Proceed with Bond Construction

TUPELO, Miss. (AP) — When Tupelo and Lee County School District students return to class next month, they will be greeted with new classroom buildings, cafeterias, computers and secure entrances.

A local newspaper reports both school districts have had busy summers spent on projects related to two successful bond referendums. Lee County voters in 2013 allowed the district to issue up to $13.5 million in new bonds, while Tupelo voters in April gave their district permission to sell about $44 million in bonds.

Lee County Superintendent Jimmy Weeks says the completion of the projects has to do with having good architects, construction companies and subcontractors.
