MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Two Montgomery County death cases result in guilty pleas and prison sentences.

Amber Grant, 22, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to second degree murder. She originally was charged with first degree murder in the May 31 beating death of 55-year-old Cheryl Burress. She was found dead in her Walthall Street home when Winona Police went there to check on her. Grant was there at the time and arrested.

She and Burress’ son, Timothy, 32, were living in the home and Grant previously had sworn out a misdemeanor assault affidavit against the elder Burress.

Timothy Burress was found dead three days later after apparently taking his own life.

In an unrelated case, 64-year-old Joe Taylor Junior was sentenced to 15 years for aggravated DUI.

The charges stem from a 2013 traffic accident on Highway 82 in the Stewart community that claimed the life of 57-year-old Margaret Davis.
