Update: Columbus Police Investigate Three Shootings

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus police say two overnight shootings are connected.

Interim Police Chief Fred Shelton says officers were called to the 100 block of Maple Street after a home was hit with two bullets on Monday evening.

Witnesses reported seeing a black Dodge Challenger speed away from the scene. Later, investigators received a tip about a possible suspect.

Just after 3 AM Tuesday, CPD was called to a home on Woolbright Street that was hit at least once.

Shelton says that home on Woolbright Street is where a friend of the suspect lived.

He believes it was a retaliation shooting.

A person of interest is in custody, after law enforcement tried to pull him over. Shelton says the person of interest initially failed to yield to officers but was eventually arrested.

Another shooting occurred Monday night in the 800 block of 10th Avenue South about 10:30 PM.

Shelton says five to six black males wearing masks went into a club house attached to the home.

At least one suspect had a gun and shot a man. That victim is now at a Tupelo hospital.

Investigators believe the robbers know the victims.

No one has been arrested.

If you have any information call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.

Shelton says the robbery is not connected to the east Columbus shootings.
