MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. (WCBI) – Its been about 100 years since Mississippi State University leaders founded the Agricultural Economics Department at it’s Starkville campus. That’s why its only fitting and proper that a former alumnus be a part of the Centennial Birthday Observance. Lecturer and world renowned environmental economist Doctor Richard T. Carson address students and faculty on the theme: Evolution of Economic Thought On Climate Change. The cost of polluted air and the price of clean whet are issues considered when Carson estimates values and come up with policies.

“Economics plays a large role in thinking about policies and we are looking at climate change, we are years into the future,” said Dr. Carson. “And so I would like them to get some notion of how all these bits and pieces fit together in the giant puzzle.”

Doctor Carson was the principle investigator for economic damage assessments for the 1989 Exxon Valdez  oil spill in Alaska.
