Video: Alabama Seeing Uptick in Spice-Related ER Visits

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WCBI) -You’ve heard about the problems Spice is causing in Mississippi and the situation isn’t any better across the state line in Alabama.

The Alabama Department of Public Health says state hospitals have seen 462 patients from March 15th through April 20th who experienced symptoms after smoking or ingesting the synthetic drug.

Spice has led to 96 hospitalizations and possibly two deaths.

Symptoms can include rapid heart rate, nausea and vomiting, confusion, hallucinations and kidney and respiratory problems.

The patients’ ages ranged from 13 to older adults. The majority of people needing treatment were males in their 20s and 30s.
