TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — 33 “Bike and Build” cyclists are in North Mississippi raising awareness about what they call the affordable housing crisis in America.

Along their cross country journey, the group helps affordable housing organizations.

They helped rehab this Tupelo home, built 12 years ago by Habitat for Humanity.

The owner passed away. Now, the house needs work before new residents move in.

Organizers say helping people buy good homes is the goal.

“Well actually there’s not a single county in the United States where it’s possible to affordably live somewhere if you are working a minimum wage job so the way this organization works is we raise money in order to ride, a minimum of $4,500 and we give that money out to other affordable housing organizations.”

The cyclists trip began last month in South Carolina and should be completed by August, in Santa Cruz, California.

Their next stop is Oxford.
