COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Columbus School Board had an uncharacteristically large crowd at Monday Night’s meeting. Several Columbus High School parents were in attendance urging the board to approve an indoor training facility for the school’s baseball and softball players. Last month School Board members denied the request on a 3-2 vote. They did it again on Monday.

Parents in the audience, like Jim Mullis who has a son on the Falcon baseball team were disappointed at the outcome.

“We’re the only 6a school without an indoor facility,” said Mullis. “Baseball practice starts in February, and as everybody knows this past February it was extremely cold, wet and snow and ice conditions. Other schools, our competition, is able to practice during those times. We have to go home.”

Mullis tells us parents are still confident the district has the funds to pay for the facility. It would cost $125,000.00.
