WEST ALABAMA (WCBI) — While primaries for statewide office haven’t generated widespread voter enthusiasm in West Alabama, some local races are.

In Lamar County, the race among Hal Allred, Scotty Glasgow, Marty Gottwald and Brandon Stephens to replace retiring sheriff Terry Perkins has been one of the most-talked about campaigns.

In Pickens County, voters will decide whether to impose an additional one cent sales tax to support local schools.

In Fayette County, Pickens and Marion counties, the incumbent sheriffs have primary opponents. And several county commission, school board and state legislative seats are contested.
