LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) -The Governor has officially put the entire state of Mississippi in a burn ban and hopes are to help stop wildfires from popping up around the state.

Many of the people who risk their lives to help stop these fires from getting out of control are volunteer fire fighters.

These men and women must leave work or go on their off day to keep us safe.

Lowndes County Fire Coordinator Sammy Fondren says the pressure is higher for the volunteers in these weather conditions.
“It does put an increased amount of responsibility on them because whereas we have house fires, maybe far and few in between, the grass fires are more sporadic and happen more often so it does put an increased amount of pressure on them.”
The ban also does not apply to grills or outdoor heaters. Fondren stressed that people still must be careful with the coals and embers that come from grills and to completely extinguish them with water.
