COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)–Gone are the days when there are a large numbers of neighborhood bait shops. In order to survive stores are now having to diversify for a wider profit margin. Bait along with advice on fishing can now be obtained at many side stores.

Before heading out to that favorite fishing spot be sure to first find a place providing the right kind of bait.

“Bass minnows, crappie minnows, gold fish, crickets, red worms, and night crawlers,” said Theresa Stockman/Bait Shop Manager.

Be sure to look for that familiar “live bait” sign. And make no mistake, bait shop gold fish are not for keeping in a fish bowl.

“They use them to catch catfish, and one guy came back and it stood about probably this high,” said Theresa Stockman.

“Any of the zoom baits in there, I use artificial lures, so any of the zoom baits in there are successful,” said Van Yates/Fisherman.

“A lot of them will ask, what is the best thing to catch a crappie or whats the best thing to catch a catfish,” said Theresa Stockman.

Valuable advice is handed out with crowling worms and hopping insects, places like that are a must before spending a little labor Day time at that isolated fishing hole.

“They get to come up here before day light and start fishing. Most of them say they like to go before it starts getting hot,” said Theresa Stockman.

“I’m glad they opened it back up its convenient when you are down there camping at Dwayne Hayes. Nice place to come to,” said Van Yates.

Along with the proper fishing bait, be sure to have the required fishing license before enjoying the Labor Day Weekend.
