Video: Elite Runner Shares Insights with Tupelo Students

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Students at Tupelo’s Lawndale Elementary got some physical fitness tips from an elite runner who will compete in this weekend’s Gumtree 10 K.Robert Scribner is a Tupelo native who is a distance runner.   He spent some time this afternoon with the running club at Lawndale Elementary .Scribner encouraged the youngsters to keep exercising and eating right,  he also cheered them on as they completed a half mile run.He says it’s important for kids to start exercising at a young age.

“To get them excited about a sport ,  wanting to go out and run or any other sport for that matter, but for me, running has been great so it’s not easy,  kind of modern environment to stay active, to keep that awareness high and encourage kids is really important. ”

Scribner encouraged the students to take part in this weekend’s 2 k fun run at the Gumtree.
