Video: Governor Bryant Reiterates State Flag Position

BALDWYN, Miss. (WCBI) – Over the weekend a number of notable Mississippians – from Jimmy Buffett and Morgan Freeman to Archie Manning- made a public appeal to state leaders to consider changing the State flag.

The issue is almost certain to come up during the next legislative session. We caught up with Governor Phil Bryant Monday to get his reaction to the latest developments.

He says he realizes everyone has an opinion , but feels the decision should lie with the voters.

“I trust the people of the state of Mississippi will make the right decision. All of those people that are saying ‘Oh let the legislature decide’, I understand their position on that, but that would simply mean they don’t trust the people of Mississippi to make the right decision, and I do.”

Bryant says he has no plans to call a special session on the matter.
