VERNON, Al.(WCBI)–A Lamar County High School student killed in a one vehicle wreck on Thursday is being remembered by family friends and classmates as an exceptional star student.

The Lamar County High Gym was Bryce Myles’ second home where he would be found working hard at his game lifting weights. Head Coach James Moore remembers the last text message he received from his player before his untimely death.

“He was talking about getting stronger and faster and about going to college. And we got through with our conversation and he said I love you coach. I appreciate what you are doing and I thank you for all the help,” said James Moore/Head Football Coach.

In spite of being out for summer break, students and other athletes crowded the gym upon hearing the news of the death of one of their own.

“You stay around all our students and we become their second parents. And we had around 25 kids here too at the time and lifting weights and so it was a very emotional morning that continued throughout the day,” said Vance Herron/LCHS Principal.

Those we spoke with who are in mourning say he’s going to be hard to forget and shoes too hard to fill, of a student athlete taken from them much too soon.

“A good kid hard worker. Made good grades in school. He had a good personality, made friends with everybody he come in contact with. He is just a joy to be around,” said Keith Myles/Brother.

“You know my boys grow up I wouldn’t have no problem with them being like him. He was a great leader and he set an example for me. I’m a better person for knowing him as long as I did,” said James Moore/Head Football Coach.

Funeral services for Bryce Myles will be Saturday July 4th at 1pm at Lamar County High gym. Burial follows at Furnace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mt. Olive M.B. Church Millport, AL. Visitation will be Friday July 3rd, the day Myles would have turned 17.
