TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A hearing has been set for Friday in the ongoing effort to get Rickey Thompson’s name back on the ballot for Lee County Justice Court Judge.

Earlier this week, Thompson’s attorney, Jim Waide, filed suit against the Attorney General and others for taking Thompson’s name off the ballot.

Last month, the Mississippi Supreme Court removed Thompson from office for judicial misconduct.

Thompson won handily in the August election and his attorney says it’s important to keep up the fight to have Thompson’s name on the ballot for voters.

“His side to this day has never been told or has never been in the media, so even with all this horrible media coverage, he still got 55% of the vote. You have to remember that these type of laws have an adverse effect on the black community. The black community simply does not trust, predominately white institutions to tell them who their judge should be, they don’t think a predominately institution, namely the Mississippi Supreme Court, or Judicial Appointments Commission knows better than they do about who is a qualified judge.”

That hearing takes place Friday morning in Hinds County Circuit Court.
