Video: Legislators and Friends Remember State Representative Esther Harrison

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Friends, constituents, and fellow legislators are mourning the loss of State Representative Esther Harrison, who passed away Wednesday morning at Methodist Hospital in Memphis.

Esther Harrison served as Representative of District 38 in Lowndes County since 2000. She had recently announced her plans to run in this year’s election.

The Columbus native and Hunt High School graduate served the community as a public school teacher, a tireless Civil Rights activist, and elected official.

Friend and colleague Tyrone Ellis remembers her as a steady force.

“You always knew where she stood, and I always tell people that for such times as this, the Good Lord gave us Esther Harrison.”

Harrison passed away on her 69th birthday..
