Video: Literacy Tutors Ready for the Next “Chapter” in Their Careers

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -A year of hard work was rewarded Wednesday in Starkville.

Tutors with America Reads-Mississippi celebrate their year of service with a “Life After AmeriCorps” luncheon.

America Reads is an AmeriCorps project that helps early elementary students with their reading and writing skills.

Members also spend time volunteering in their communities.

“Celebrating the accomplishments of AmeriCorps members serving in elementary schools across the Starkville area. They have tutored students in reading full-time during the day. They have done community service. They involved their students in community service, and they also receive a large amount of training this year to help them in their professional education pursuits.”

America Reads- Mississippi started in 1998. It is a partnership between AmeriCorps and the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning
