MILLPORT, Al. (WCBI) — A library at South Lamar County High School is turned into a museum where characters from our not so distant past come alive for all to see and hear.

Men and women straight from the pages of the history books portrayed by fifth graders is giving all who visit the Alabama library a better grasp on history. A mother’s son has donned the garb of an old frontiersman.

“He has learned a lot about Davy Crockett and the history of the things that they’ve done in the past. And also about some of the other characters and things. The Daniel Boone and all of his other friends, the characters they have learned,” said Misty Patrick/Parent & Museum Goer.

“Hi my name is Anne Frank I was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfort, Germany. My family and I went into hiding for two years in an apartment attic behind my dad’s business,” belts out a character.

Not only do museum goers discover people from the past, they get researched information on just what impact they made on the lives of us and others.

“I was a president for 8 years. My face is on quarters and Dollars,” said Hunter Taylor/George Washington.

“I’m best known for refusing to give up my bus seat to a white passenger,” said Madison Frierson/Rosa Parks.

After speaking, the old characters come to life, then bows their head until another museum goer approaches, and that starts the presentation once again.

“Its amazing what these kids can learn in a couple of weeks and how well they prepared for everything,” said Misty Patrick.

This is the second year for the living history museum presentation at the Alabama school.
