LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — You heard about it happening when hurricane Katrina struck the tombs of New Orleans, but tornadoes can wreak as much havoc on headstones as hurricanes can.

Just ask those with loved ones buried in Louisville’s main cemetery Memorial Park. Headstones have been shifted and shattered after the graveyard took a direct hit from Monday’s EF-4 tornado.

City leaders have inspected the damage, and are carefully clearing the area. They will now rely on the state department of archives to help assign the markers.

Eventually, families will be contacted about the steps to restore the headstones.
