GUNTOWN, Miss. (WCBI) – A Guntown alderman wins by a huge margin , defeating an incumbent for the District 6 State Senate Race.

As WCBI’s Allie Martin reports, Chad McMahan credits hard work, and a simple message for his big win.

As Chad McMahan was thanking supporters Tuesday evening, the congratulatory calls and texts were coming in.

This morning, the Guntown alderman was still returning the messages.

During lunch at Driksills, the senator elect for District 6 was thanking supporters.

McMahan says 20 plus years as a salesman for Great Southern Industries will help once he takes office.

“Lee County is one of the largest counties in the United States as far as representing manufacturing.  About 23 percent of people in this county work in the manufacturing industry, so this is an opportunity to really send a state senator, seat him in the state house that actually understands working people and the needs and concerns of working people,” McMahan said.

McMahan worked tirelessly alongside a dedicated group of volunteers to spread his simple message of fiscal responsibility, support for education and limited government.

“I’m just a regular guy that’s trying to do great things for regular people, I’m a working kind of guy,” he said.

Mcmahan takes office in January.

McMahan is a lifelong Lee County resident.
