Video: Mississippi Firefighters of the Year get Hometown Recognition

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -They’ve been recognized at the state Capitol…tonight the Columbus firefighters who saved a mother and her three children from the Jamestown Apartments last October were recognized by the Columbus City Council.

The firemen have already received the state Firefighter of the Year award.

Councilmen were later joined by the four people rescued, including Shalonda Connors and her daughter Deja who suffered burns. Fire Chief Martin Andrews credited Connors as the true hero for keeping her family alive during the minutes needed for firefighters to get through the smoke and flames.
