MONROE COUNTY, Miss.(WCBI)–A career criminal crashes a stolen vehicle and dies but not before being on the run from law enforcers in two states and 8 counties in our viewing area alone.

Some of the stolen items on a truck are from at least three homes in the Itawamba County area.

“The property we recovered have been returned to the victims. This is actually one piece left that hasn’t been recovered to our victims,” said Lt. Mike Newlin/Itawamba County Sheriff Investigator.

It was at a location in Smithville that law enforcement agencies from Monroe and Itawamba County combed a wooded area for the suspect Friday. But the search for Joseph Michael Keller began way before that In Itawamba County. Apparently the AP from a stolen Ipad helped in the search.

“So we were able to actually track where the Ipad was at that time,” said Lt. Mike Newlin.

“The deputy turned his blue lights on him and turned around on a gravel road. When he turned around of course there was so much dust he couldn’t see exactly which way he went. So he followed the dust and it turned into a paved road on Burks Road and he had wrecked,” said Sheriff Cecil Cantrell/Monroe County.

From what we understand on Sunday Keller was ejected from this white Chevy Avalanche he hurriedly spray painted black to disguise it’s appearance.

“He just had a criminal past and he just got on a spree and it just, one thing led to another and it just led to his death,” said Sheriff Cecil Cantrell.

The suspect was also wanted in Chickasaw County and Lamar County in Alabama.
