COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Alumni are back on the campus of Mississippi University For Women in Columbus once again.

As returning alumni, joined with faculty and MUW students take the traditional president’s walk, its a weekend of fun excitement and entertainment on the Columbus campus.

“It took me years to get over being homesick for the W. I would come back every year for homecoming. For a number of years, I have not been back for the last 10 years though. So its nice to be home,” said Becky Mann/1965 Golden Girls.

“Well, I’m working right now with student alumni association. And I get to see all the ladies that get to meet each other. They get to reunite so its very heart warming to see that after all these years you know. They still can connect with each other like they never missed a beat,” said Janna Ingan/MUW Senior.

Slowly strolling the university grounds, for these alums engaged in intense conversation, some things are new, while others remain a tradition just like that Old Maid’s Gate just off college Street. A familiar location where they are welcomed back home.

“Absolutely, you know the tornado that came through, it just changed the landscape all of the beautiful trees that were no longer there. Lot of the buildings that we remembered going to class in or living in, the dorms are closed. But the feel is still there and the memories are still there,” said Becky Mann.

A royal greeting fit for queens, at the university that accepts men also, there is a Friday Luncheon for The Golden Girls of the graduating class of 1965. A time to mingle with both new and returning students.

“They were so funny, I got to meet so many ladies and they had so many stories to tell me and so many advise to tell me. And what to do from the W. So it was really really fun for me as a student to interact with them,” said Janna Ingan.
