STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -Some Oktibbeha County residents have been suffering from “sticker shock”, and today they were looking for answers.

Several East Oktibbeha Wastewater customers showed up at the utility’s public meeting to find out why they are now being hit with, in some cases, thousands of dollars in back charges, interest, and late fees.

Another company used to operate the sewer system , free of charge at Highlands Plantation.

It was then sold to the East Oktibbeha Water District.

During that time some of the customers never received bills, but still used the sewer service.

Other customers have vacant lots with no water or sewers, and have received outrageous bills.

“We are going to have to discuss how we are going to go after these 237 that have not paid their bill in 2 years ”

The dispute is going to the Attorney General’s office for review.
