TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Ten new buses will soon be on the road for Tupelo Public School students. Nine 77 passenger buses have been purchased, along with a new bus for special needs students. The buses are going through final checks before they are put into service.

Each bus has air conditioning, and cameras in front and back of the vehicles. Administrators say the new buses will replace those that have been on the road for more than twenty years.

There are also advantages to the district.

“Right now, if you take an activity trip, or field trip, you have to leave after bus routes in the morning, and be back before bus routes in the afternoon. Having extra buses gives us the opportunity to take a little further trip than we were doing before and to spend more quality time on the trip.”

Each day more than 3,000 students ride school buses throughout the district. The bus purchase was financed by the recent bond issue.
