TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Tupelo city officials say a charity basketball game organized by the rap group “Rae Sremmurd” cannot be held at the high school gym because a tournament was booked months ago.

This weekend, the “Sremm Fest” takes place in Tupelo. Headliners are the two brothers, who make up “Rae Sremmurd” and they are from Tupelo.

Apparently, management for the group advertised that a charity basketball game was set for Friday night, at the THS gym, but the “All America Basketball Classic” will be held as originally planned.

“One of the events of a three day festival will not take place, at least as originally designed, but otherwise the festival will move forward and it should be a great quality of life opportunity and an economic development tool for the city of Tupelo,” said Mayor Jason Shelton.

A concert is planned for Saturday evening at the Bancorpsouth Arena, and another charity event will take place Sunday at Ballard Park.
