Video: Starkville Runner Prepares for Boston Marathon

STARKVILLE, Miss. – (WCBI) A Starkville fitness buff and runner heads to Boston for Monday’s marathon. When mother of three Corey Martin starts the 26-mile run, she’ll have a little extra motivation.

Martin qualified to run four years ago, but canceled the trip when her mother died of cancer. She calls the Boston Marathon the ultimate race and worked to qualify again this year after learning her mother had set aside money before her death to pay for the trip.

“My mother did pass away and my brother came across an envelope and on the envelope my mom had written ‘Corey’s marathon’ and that was over four years ago and it kind of gave me that motivation that I’ll probably need on Monday,” says Martin.

Martin played basketball for a year at Mississippi State 20 years ago and now is a personal trainer at OCH Wellness Connection.
