JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – A Mississippi lawmaker wants the governor to call a special session for lawmakers to vote on a measure that would require all law enforcement to wear a body camera.
State Representative Chuck Espy made the announcement Thursday. Espy says Governor Phil Bryant should add to his workforce development special session, that has been expected, or call the special session for body cameras.
The Clarksdale Democrat says after incidents in Missouri, New York, and South Carolina the technology is necessary.
Espy believes the move would foster openness and trust.
According to a spokesman, Bryant hasn’t responded to the request.
