Macon, Miss. (WCBI) — Family and friends of a Noxubee County man who suffered a serious freak accident in Florida are bringing the community together for a Charity Softball Tournament in his honor Saturday. Tony Sudduth of Macon continues to improve, but more support is needed for the long haul.

The baseball diamonds at the Noxubee Sportsplex are being spruced up for a tournament to help Tony Sudduth in his recovery efforts after undergoing major surgery.

“And was sliding down one of those blowup slides, the big big slides. And somehow or another a little fella hit him in back of the neck. And broke C-3 and C-4,” said Debbie Jourdan, Tony’s Aunt.

The spinal injury left Sudduth paralyzed from the neck down, he was given a one percent chance of recovery. The brave physically strong outdoors type who is undergoing rehabilitation in Georgia is making remarkable strides every day. In the words of his family… its phenomenal.

He has got a lot of fight in him. He has got a lot of determination. He doesn’t back down and he has a lot of try. He is very strong,” said Cameron Jourdan, Tony’s Cousin.

“We just praise God for the improvements that he has had every day,” said Kristie Boykin, Family Friend.

“He has got some movement in his right hand. He can give you thumbs up. And his legs are very strong, he can push, you know take those off the bed and he can lift them up off the bed and he was riding a bike the other day,” said Cameron Jourdan.

As our brave father of a four year old continues fighting back, a team is formed to help cheer him on to victory. The biggest member of the team… his four year old son Brendan.

“Lets name it team Tony and there is no requirements to meet, no try outs to do except that we believe he is going to be okay and walk again,” said Cameron Jourdan.

To assist Team Tony, an account is set up at Citizen National Bank of Macon in the name of Erin Jones. Call 662-726-5192 or 662-435-8299 for more information on the Charity Softball Tournament.
