CALEDONIA, Miss. (WCBI) – The Lowndes County School District launched its one to one initiative in August, which allows all students and teachers to receive Mac Book Air Laptops.

“Oh no doubt, this is the future of education,” said Aaron Lee, an Instructional Technology Coach for the school district.

Lee spends time in the classroom helping students out on the Mac Books and also teaching new tech tools.

He says this type of learning is different but draws out more student engagement than traditional teaching methods.

“That’s really the whole purpose of blended learning is to boost student engagement and when you have higher participation from the students, they’re more likely to grasp the material,” said Lee.

Lee says launching the initiative has been an adjustment but the benefits are evident.

“To be very honest, there is a learning curve. ‘ What do we do with this technology in our classroom?’ But the amazing thing is the amount of buy-in we’ve had from teachers themselves. ‘ I’ve got this tool, teach me how to use it.'” added Lee.

Rebecca Henderson is a 5th grade teacher. She says at first, she was nervous about implementing the laptops into daily teaching but now she is confident in the success.

“How am I going to implement this into my daily lessons but now having Mr. Lee and Hope come in and help us learn the different programs we can use, it’s been great and very beneficial,” said Henderson.

And as for the students, they are happy about the change.

“And they help me excel at my typing skills,” said 5th grader Madalyn Allen.

“It took a long time before they could get here and everybody was excited they can learn in a different way,” said 5th grader Skailyr Scott.

Students in kindergarten through 4th grade use I-Pads, students 5th grade through 12th use Mac Book Air Laptops.
