MARIETTA, Miss. (WCBI) – A portion of a state highway is renamed for a man who helped build industry and helped countless people throughout Northeast Mississippi. The segment of Highway 371 in the corporate limits of Marietta has been officially renamed the “James C ‘Jimmy’ Pharr Memorial Highway.”

Pharr is known for operating a sawmill and also for being a community leader and someone who lived out his Christian faith in tangible ways.

“You could see that in his life everyday, he was always willing to praise the Lord for what He had done in his life and that is a legacy he left behind for our family and we’re so thankful for.”

“It’s very fitting to take a public asset, like a road, bridge and name it after a true public servant, like Mister Pharr.”

Senate Bill 2005 was approved during the last legislative session, to rename a portion of Highway 371 after Pharr.
