Video: Tupelo City Council Ready to see Progress on New Police Station

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Tupelo City Council members say they’re anxious to see construction start on a new police headquarters. During a work session this afternoon, council members reviewed plans and discussed the next phase of the nine and a half million dollar project.The new facility will be built at Front and Franklin streets. It will also place police operations under one roof.

“What we’re trying to get is final approval on everything to be able to go forward and then we get into architects, design and engineering and get to where we’re ready to break ground, that’s something the administration, police department and council is all looking forward to, to be able to break ground and get going in the right direction on this project.”

The city council also approved the a 33 million dollar budget for the next fiscal year. The budget has a projected surplus of about a hundred thousand dollars and does not include a tax increase
